Car Seat Covers: How to Wash Them Properly

    MaisonBy MaisonNovember 16, 2021No Comments3 Mins Read

Many drivers find themselves cleaning their seat covers regularly. This can take a long time, which can be prevented by cleaning correctly. Over time, a car seat cover might become quite filthy. The primary purpose of this cover is to protect your original seat from dirt and other forms of harm. Cleaning a vehicle seat cover is much easier than cleaning the seat itself. Most car seat covers can be washed in the washing machine, but you may need to take extra measures depending on the amount of damage and grime.

If you don’t have enough time to do so, you can bring your car seat covers to the nearest laundry service. Some even offer a laundry delivery service to make it more accessible to you.

Keep in mind that not all materials are cleaned in the same way. Cleaning your bathroom is not the same as cleaning your kitchen. You’d utilize a variety of tools and equipment. With that said, It’s not a good idea to clean all of your seat coverings in the same way. Because some seat coverings attract more debris than others, this is the case. Five processes are required for CR-grade neoprene seat covers, for example. On the other hand, simulated leather seat covers need fewer steps.

    Faux Leather

Faux leather may be cleaned while still in the car. The covers must first be vacuumed. To efficiently clean a simulated leather/vinyl seat cover, clean each portion separately. Instead of shampoo, clean the surface with a vinyl cleaner. With a soft bristle brush, work the cleaner in. It may be cleaned with a damp towel and dried with microfiber.

    Neoprene

Cleaning a neoprene seat cover can be done on or off the car. To begin, clean the soiled areas using a damp towel. Then swab them with wetsuit shampoo. Rinse the cover with a moist cloth once more. Dry the seat cover with a cloth once the surface has been washed. Allow the seat cover to dry in the sun after that. Unlike some other seat covers, neoprene does not require shaking or vacuuming. It takes less time to clean than other seat covers because it only requires wiping shampoo on it.

    Polyester

Polyester is one of the most easily cleaned textiles. While spot cleaning stains while the cover is on is simple, polyester seat covers can be removed and washed on a delicate setting in the machine, then hung to dry or machine dried on a moderate or cool cycle. Before cleaning the seat covers, make sure to use a mild detergent and flip them inside out.

    Tweed

Because tweed is a woven fabric, vacuuming before cleaning is essential, especially if you have shedding pets. Vacuum thoroughly since hairs and dirt will get caught in the weave. The best way to preserve the longevity of tweed seat covers is to hand wash them with a mild detergent. It’s also a good idea to hang your clothes to dry.

Remember that any seat cover with sewn-in foam cushioning should be hand cleaned and hung to dry to prevent the foam from degrading over time. It will look brand new if you remember how to clean your seat cover properly. Avoid spills and clean unclean items before putting them in your car to keep it that way.
